Kia and its sister brand recently announced details of the final steps in resolving their recent fuel economy ratings issue.

When announcing a newly discovered error in fuel mileage ratings for a small number of new Kia models, Kia leadership promised a reimbursement plan would soon follow. Kia of Fargo is more than proud to share the news that Kia is now releasing details of what drivers can expect to receive as compensation for the mix-up.

For starters, our favorite automaker confirmed the list of models for which erroroeous information was originally published: the Sorento, Optima Hybrid, Rio, Soul, and Sportage. The mileage figure on the sticker for most of these was off by only 1 or 2 mpg, but Kia pledges to make up the difference and then some.

As noted by Green Car Reports, "The reimbursement will be based on the period over which the owners have had the vehicles, and reflect the gas they would have saved had the cars hit the stated mileage - plus 15 percent."1

To ensure that Kia vehicle owners have time to act, the reimbursement period will remain open until the end of 2013. Drivers can have their odometers read and then be compensated at their dealerships.
